The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is constructing a battery plant in Michigan, raising concerns about environmental degradation and possible threats to national security.
This is according to radio talk show host Justin Barclay of WOOD Radio in Grand Rapids, Michigan, who noted how many people in the state are very much concerned with a factory built by a company controlled by the CCP being set up on their backyard.
“People are not just concerned about the national security issues here in this country,” commented Barclay. “[The CCP] is setting up spying locations in places like Cuba. They may even have a spying location or some sort of outpost in Missouri.” (Related: Dems allow CCP to build a factory in Michigan amid rising tension between US and China over Taiwan.)
“Now, this is a major concern, continues to be one and I think not only [because of] the national security implications, but others are concerned about what may be the environmental impact of this whole thing,” he added.
Barclay raised several issues, including how Michigan Democrats are allowing taxpayer dollars to subsidize the operation and how this could bring an influx of potentially illegal Chinese migrant laborers into the state who would be used to staff the plant, rather than Michiganders who need good-paying jobs.
Gotion, the CCP-controlled company in charge of the new battery manufacturing company, claimed that its project in Michigan would create 2,300 permanent jobs.
Fortunately, Barclay noted that a lot is being done about the plant. He noted that Michigan residents have been holding meetings and organizing their neighbors for a variety of initiatives to stop the plant from becoming operational, including one initiative to recall local elected officials who supported the initiative.
Similarly, Michigan residents are also keeping an eye on two court cases filed on their behalf in Marshall and Mecosta Counties.
These legal battles are challenging the Michigan Economic Development Corporation’s (MEDC) choice to designate the CCP battery plant, led by the Chinese company Gotion, into a “Renaissance Zone,” claiming it violates certain zoning laws.
Robby Dube, the attorney working on behalf of the residents of Green and Big Rapids townships, noted that the zone designation is illegal.
“Nowhere is the [MEDC] granted the authority to rewrite statuses,” said Dube. He added that the designation is not only illegal but it also “was beyond the scope of [MEDC’s] authority and arbitrary and capricious.”
If this legal battle moves in favor of the people of Michigan, a judge could end up ordering all development on the battery plant in Marshall County’s Blue Oval Battery Park to cease.
“Now it’s a legal fight,” noted Barclay. “Never give up. It’s not time to panic yet. It is time to fight. Stay engaged.”
